Wickr co-founder goes to security startup Nisos as general counsel
Nisos, an Alexandria, Virginia-based cyber security and investigations firm, has brought on Jennifer DeTrani as EVP and general counsel. DeTrani, who co-founded the secure messaging app Wickr, will continue to work there in a limited role as special advisor. In a way, the move to Nisos is a homecoming for her; she grew up in the area and did a sting as an assistant U.S. attorney there.
At Nisos, DeTrani will continue to focus on cybersecurity as part of a team of former U.S. government intelligence operators who employ “active defense” methodologies to defend the private sector from loss of intellectual property and reputational value from malicious actors and insider threats. Nisos recently raised over $6 million in its series A funding, led by Columbia Capital.
“We are excited to welcome Jen to the team,” says Nisos Executive Director, Landon Winkelvoss. “Jen comes to Nisos with the perfect background to navigate the increasingly sophisticated legal and regulatory environment in which modern business risks propagate.”
DeTrani began her legal career at Cooley, and she’s had a private practice in San Diego, where she worked with startups. She holds a J.D. from University of Michigan and received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
