United Airlines former general counsel will become president
After proving his leadership skills as general counsel, he became first interim CEO, till reaching the top role five years later: Brett Hart will indeed become president in United Airlines on May 20, when Scott Kirby takes over as CEO.
He joined United from Sara Lee 10 years ago. He was interim CEO in 2015 when Oscar Munoz had a heart transplant. It’s the latest piece of a succession plan in which Munoz, a United board member who was named CEO in 2015, will step down from day-to-day operations of the company to become executive chairman. As president, Hart will add human resources and labor relations to his responsibilities for legal, government affairs, corporate communications and community engagement. It’s a particularly challenging assignment now, with United planning to make significant cuts in its workforce as it prepares for a slow recovery from the coronavirus, which has toppled the aviation industry.
