Thomson Reuters lawyers goes into the cosmetic industry as Estee Lauder’s GC

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. in New York have hired Deirdre Stanley as executive Vp and general counsel; she’ll start in late October. cStanley will report both to company chairman William Lauder, Executive Chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, the president and CEO.

Stanley has quite the resume. Prior to joining ELC, she was GC for The Thomson Reuters Corp. and its predecessor company for 17 years. As the company’s top lawyer, Stanley was responsible for worldwide legal affairs and operations with lawyers in more than 10 countries, including in North America, Europe, Asia and multiple emerging markets. Her responsibilities also included government and regulatory affairs.

Before her Thomson-Reuters stint, she was a lawyer at InterActiveCorp/USA Networks, Inc., now IAC. While there, she held the posts of deputy general counsel and then was a divisional GC and head of business development for the company’s Electronic Commerce Solutions division. Stanley’s CV also shows that she worked at the white-shoe law firm Cravath, Swaine and Moore and associate general counsel of GTE Corp., a predecessor company to Verizon.

“Deirdre is a highly talented, proven General Counsel and seasoned executive whose global business acumen and legal expertise are matched only by her leadership capabilities and sound judgment,” said Lauder in a statement. “Deirdre’s exemplary track record of leading large organizations and acting as a key strategic partner to multiple CEOs and Boards at a family-controlled, publicly traded company makes her uniquely suited to take on this role.”
