Survey: Only 1 in 5 companies say they’re GDPR compliant

A recent survey by Dimensional Research found that only 20 percent of the companies surveyed believed that they are compliant with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. Slightly more than half—53 percent—are in the implementation phase, and more than one in four say that they have not started implementing their compliance.

It’s better in the European Union: 27 percent say that they’re compliant, in comparison to 12 percent in the United States and 21 percent in the U.K. Almost all companies say they expect to be compliant by the end of next year.

Other findings:

27 percent of companies surveyed say that they’ve spent at least $500,ooo to become compliant;

31 percent expect to spend more than a half million dollars on GDPR compliance efforts this year;

18 percent of U.S.-based companies spent more than $1,000,000 in GDPR compliance this year, versus only 8 percent in the U.K. and continental Europe.
