Social media sites heat up as lawyers discuss how the Covid-19 crisis will change how we work
The Covid-19 lockdown has completely changed how the legal world works. And as a news service that scours the wires for news of hiring and promotion, anecdotally we can say that for now, that kind of news is drying up.
What is up are discussions on social media, especially, for housebound in-house attorneys, on the networking site LinkedIn. We’ve been monitoring the discussions, and here’s a sampling of one.
The thread starts with a question by Christopher Metz (in the photo above), assistant compliance officer of New York University: “What positive permanent paradigm shifts do you believe will occur as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic?”
Career coach Annie Little, who probably has encountered situations in which working at home employees also have to deal with small children, says she hopes to see more “Employer understanding around childcare challenges!”
Finally, lawyer Olivia Vizachero offers a big picture thought: ” I think we are going to have a drastic shift in our collective definition of what it means to be professional. Specifically, I think we will see that definition start to look more human and realistic, so that people don’t have to bifurcate their identities. And I’m hopeful a more inclusive construction of professionalism will pay dividends in increasing mental health and wellbeing by reducing the shame people experience when their lives that are supposed to be kept separate overlap as they invariably always do because that’s part of being human.”
