Nokia in-house lawyer sues for alleged gender bias

Bloomberg Big Law reports that a 56-year-old female in-house lawyer in Texas sued Nokia Corp, accusing it of age and sex discrimination. The suit says that the company fired her when she complained about it.

The suit, by Sharan Rene Boudreau, alleges that she was passed over for advancement despite award-winning performance reviews. She says that Nokia said that she didn’t have enough management experience, according to Bloomberg, and when she attempted to show management otherwise, they failed to change their mind.

The suit, filed in Dallas federal court, says that the job that Boudreau wanted went to a younger male colleague. She says she brought her complaints to HR, which told her that there was no basis for her claims; she took disability leave based on its advice. When filed a claim with the Texas Commission on Human Rights, Bourdreau was fired.

The company hadn’t responded to requests for comments, said the Bloomberg report.
