Jessica Hertz named general counsel of E-commerce platform Shopify
Shopify has hired Jessica Hertz (pictured), who stepped down this month from her role as cabinet secretary for President Joe Biden, to be its general counsel.
In August, Shopify tapped Erin Zipes and Vivek Narayanadas to head its legal team. Zipes and Narayanadas, vice presidents of legal, took over following the departure of the company’s chief legal officer, Joseph Frasca, in June.
Hertz held roles of increasing responsibility in the public and private sector, including general counsel of the Biden-Harris transition team and director and associate general counsel of regulations at Facebook. Prior to that, she practiced law at Jenner & Block and was principal deputy counsel at the Office of the Vice President. Earlier in her career, Hertz was a special assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s office; counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice and counselor to the Administrator of the office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).
