Jamaal Lesane is Madison Square Garden Sports new general counsel

Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. has appointed Jamaal Lesane (pictured) as its new general counsel. Lesane will be succeeding the Garden’s long-time general counsel Lawrence Burian, who is stepping down after spending two decades at MSG-related entities.

Lesane, a lifelong Knicks fan, advises on matters related to MSG Sports subsidiaries such as NBA’s New York Knicks, NHL’s New York Rangers, and e-sports business Counter Logic Gaming. He joined MSG Sports in 2008 as vice president of legal and business affairs and was promoted to associate general counsel in 2020.

Prior to joining MSG Sports, Lesane spent almost two years as an associate counsel for the television network HBO. He started his legal career as an associate at Washington, D.C.-based law firm Covington & Burling.
