The New York-based title insurance firm AmTrust Title Insurance Co has promoted Felice K. Shapiro to general counsel for AmTrust Title and First Nationwide Title. The announcement makes her one of the first female general Counsel of a major title insurance underwriter. In her new role, Shapiro is responsible for all underwriting decisions for both companies.
Most recently, Shapiro was EVP and chief underwriter for AmTrust Title and was responsible for overseeing all legal and underwriting decisions for the direct and agency sides of the business. Before she jointed AmTrust Title in two years ago, she was executive director and counsel of TIRSA, a rating agency for title insurance. She also spent more than 17 years at Old Republic Title Company, where she was a senior counsel.
“Felice has made countless contributions to the title insurance industry from her work as President of NYSLTA, Executive Director of TIRSA and now General Counsel at one of the leading title insurance underwriters in the industry,” said Jason Gordon, president of AmTrust Title. “She brings significant legal and title insurance expertise to the role. Known as a deal maker rather than a deal breaker, Felice brings an innovative legal perspective to the largest real estate transactions, and we look forward to better leveraging her insight to support both AmTrust Title and First Nationwide.”
In 1997 Shapiro was named the first female president of the New York State Land Title Association. She received a JD from the University of Bridgeport School of Law.
