Spotify’s legal chief Horacio Gutierrez joins Walt Disney as general counsel
The Walt Disney Co. has tapped Horacio Gutierrez (pictured) to take over as the entertainment and media company’s general counsel, senior executive vice president and secretary. Gutierrez will be succeeding Disney’s long-time top counsel, Alan Braverman, who has announced earlier this year his plan to retire at the end of the year.
Gutierrez, who officially begins his new role on Feb. 1, will report to Disney CEO Bob Chapek. As Disney’s top lawyer, he will oversee the company’s global legal affairs while serving as a strategic adviser to the executives and board of directors.
Gutierrez joined Spotify in 2016 as general counsel and vice president of business and legal affairs and was elevated to head of global legal affairs and chief legal officer in 2019. He served as general counsel for Microsoft, which he joined in 1998 as a corporate attorney overseeing the company’s corporate and commercial legal matters in Latin America.
