Eyewear giant Luxottica buys sunglass maker with the help of its legal department

Luxottica Group, the company most Americans have never heard of, has acquired the Italian company Barberini, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of optical glass sunglasses, with production sites in Italy and Germany. Among others, Luxottica also owns Ray Ban and Lenscrafters, and manufactures frames for many prestige eyewear brands.

The legal aspects of the operation were handled by the internal legal department, with Emanuele Camandona (pictured) head of legal affairs, and Federico Giacobbe, senior counsel.

Allen & Overy assisted the group on aspects of Italian and international law. The firm put together a team led by partner Paolo Ghiglione, assisted by the associate Marco Muratore with intern Enrico Roveda for corporate law and M&A, and with counsel Elisabetta Mentasti and associate Roberta Errico for administrative / environmental law. Livio Bossotto  acted as counsel for labor law, and  senior associate Carmen Castellano oversaw intellectual property.
