Walton Family Foundation elevates Christie Yang to general counsel

The Walton Family Foundation, a family-led foundation started by the founders of Walmart, has promoted Christie Yang (pictured) to general counsel. Christie Yang will lead the foundation’s legal operations as the organization advances new five-year strategy.

Yang will guide the foundation’s use of philanthropic tools to maximize the strategic impact of the foundation’s program areas and departments. In this capacity, she will also serve as an advisor to the executive director, support engagement with the Board of Directors and work collaboratively with the foundation’s leadership team.

Most recently, Yang served as the foundation’s interim general counsel, following the departure last May of Lisa Montez. Prior to joining the Walton Family Foundation, Yang was associate general counsel at the Brookings Institution, where she advised top-ranked research programs and navigated complex issues across multiple foreign offices and strategic partnerships worldwide. She was a litigator at Morrison & Foerster, representing numerous Fortune 100 tech and financial services clients in high-stakes, high-profile litigation and investigations earlier in her career.
