Christian Sabella appointed as general counsel for Coinbase
Christian Sabella (pictured) joins Cryptocurrency company, Coinbase as senior director and associate general counsel. In his new role, Sabella will lead the cryptocurrency exchange’s capital markets legal work.
Christian Sabella has fifteen years of experience in the fintech industry. He was most recently acting director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Division of Trading and Markets. Prior to joining the SEC, Sabella served as an associate with Shearman & Sterling.
The announcement was made by Coinbase chief legal officer Paul Grewal on the social platform Twitter.
Established in 2012, Coinbase was the first major cryptocurrency company to go public and had an $85 billion opening day valuation when it debuted on Nasdaq. Coinbase serves around 56 million verified users, 8,000 institutions and 134,000 ecosystem partners in over 100 countries. Coinbase has expanded its legal department rapidly since becoming a publicly traded company in April 2021.
