Intercom, a software unicorn providing customer relationship management software and whose backers include Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey, has appointed Cheree McAlpine (pictured) as its first general counsel and senior vice president.

In her role as general counsel, McAlpine will set the strategy for Intercom’s legal team and prepare the company for its continued growth.

This is the latest appointment in a string of C-suite hires as the company builds up its executive team in advance of what tech observers believe is a likely initial public offering.

McAlpine joins Intercom with more than 25 years of legal experience. Her areas of expertise include advising company’s executive leaders on strategic and corporate governance matters, as well as providing counsel and management of M&A activities, intellectual property transactions and operation.

McAlpine most recently served as chief legal officer for Lumileds, an LED lighting company that Apollo acquired in 2016 in a deal that valued that business at about USD 2 billion. She joined Lumileds from Avnet where she served as vice president and general counsel.  Prior to that, she was vice president and general counsel of Wyse, which was acquired by Dell in 2012. She was also a senior legal leader at Sun Microsystems.
